I swore the book at one time covered a pitchers release af the ball..........example: while in play the pitcher flips the ball out of his hand rolls it up his arm and then pitches. I thought the book read any release of the ball in any direction other than towards the batter was a dead ball resulting in a ball.

    Thanks

it's an illegal pitch which is called after the batter decides on if he wants to swing at it

Meaning you have to hope the ump knows the rule and calls it correctly.

I cant find anything to justify calling it illegal.

u-trip allows a lot..but it does say that after all the motions of the pitcher, that the pitch must still be delivered in an underhand motion .in your description of him flipping the ball out of his hand and rolling it up his arm and then pitching it... I cant picture this unless he is bouncing it up catching it and then pitching it underhand??? if so that would be legal...also he only has 5 seconds for his motions and delivery

I'm picturing the globe trotters move where they will the ball down their arm from the shoulder and then throwing it.

No rulebook has said that in the 5 years I've been umpiring or in the 12 years I've been playing USSSA. Unless it is specifically prohibited or dangerous, there is no reason not to allow it.

Sounds like this guy needs a job, or kids, or something better to do than work on his prepitch movements. But, at the same time, that sounds awesome!

Definitely much better than the guys that do to same one pump movement every pitch that think they're in anyone's head.

Stop screwing around and throw the damn ball. It's slow pitch, not Cirque du Soleil.
