I have the 454 and used the FX700 in a tourney recently. The distance is pretty similar, but the 454 has a much better feel to the barrel and a larger sweetspot.

I had a DST that did the same thing, you will continue to get spiral cracks until it snaps...mine lasted about 75 swings.
