Where is the loyalty to softball players?

It don't seem fair to change the standard and force people to buy less durable bats (not cheap) after people have invested in one or more bats (not cheap) that are performing for you. Is it that big of a problem with safety?

What empirical evidence do you have that the new bats are less durable than the old ones? All anyone has right now is anecdotal evidence which can be subjective for a wide variety of reasons. Do you think an SCN17BH or SCN20BW were that much less durable than the older models? Both of those passed USSSA testing and would have been legal if Easton hadn't screwed up. What USSSA did was ensure that every bat that gets used meets their criteria at all points in it's lifespan, not just when manufactured. Look at how many people talked about how much better their bat got with use, it's a pretty safe bet that all those bats exceeded the standards.

sick of this warning time

Do you think people not on this softball fans board have anyidea when yhey go buy a bat at a retail store there notified that the bat isnt good next year? NOT!How about all the weekend warriors or the church league teams out there going to go buy a bat at sports authority are aware of the new standard.I really dont think so. [email protected]

Take this with a grain of salt, but I was just forwarded an email from a local LD who states that Dale McGregor who is an Assistant National Umpire in Chief for USSSA is stating that the 2013 ban on old USSSA stamped bats has been lifted. A copy of the email is as follows:

"Don’t sell your bats yet.

I just spoke to Dale McGregor and was told the restriction on bats for the 2013 has been lifted for all USSSA League play. This means you’re able to use your bats until they wear out, crack, dent or break. This is good news for all of us."

Can anyone confirm this? Just a rumor?

USSSA doesn't actually control league play, they only control championship play. There will be leagues that don't follow the national rule book about the new bats but locals can make whatever rules they want. In reading the national by-laws this could not happen until the national meeting which I believe is in January. At which point it would take a majority of delegates to change it, and probably a few lawsuits from the manufacturers for being lied to.

Thank you for the clarification.
