Batter Absent

USA Senior Softball: A player is in the lineup and is scheduled to bat. He is late and is not available to bat. Is the team charged with an out? What happens if he shows up later in the game? Can he bat? If so, where? Will he bat in the position he originally occupied or is he added to the bottom of the lineup?

If you have a legal substitute, that player must enter the game and take the missing player's place. If you do not, you take an out and if the missing player shows up later in the game, they must immediately enter the game in their spot. By turning in the lineup card you are affirming that all players listed are there and ready to play.

The only time you would add someone to the bottom of the order is if you started the game with 9 on the lineup card and a tenth arrived, they would take the empty 10th spot in the lineup.
