Speed Demon

Part Time Player
This happened in my daughter’s softball game 2 weeks ago. Runner on 1st, batter at the plate, batter is walked and the runner at 1st goes to 2nd the makes a wide turn towards 3rd. The SS was standing in the hole talking to the 3B with her heels next to the grass (way outside the imaginary baseline), runner runs into SS, was awarded 3B. The ball was thrown back to P, but the P didn’t get back to circle, so the play was live. Should the runner been awarded 3B, even though they deliberately ran outside of the baseline to the opposing SS?

HTBT to see it, but from what is posted I would not have given 3B. If F5 was in the 5-6 hole talking to F6, who was covering 3B to get the out? That is the only way there would be a call here at all. Going entirely based on what is posted here, I would be more likely to eject R1 for initiating contact.
