Interesting question that somebody asked me. This would be high school (NFHS) fast-pitch. What if the Home Team wanted to bat 1st. Is there an option?

In turn becoming the visiting team and forfeiting their rights as "home team"? I'd take that in a second. Unless for some reason run diff was important.

An umpire asked me about this. Seems the home coach knew he was going to get beat really bad and wanted to avoid the extra at bat.

Im guessing the coach was hoping for a run rule which would end the game faster if he was visitors. I have never seen a coach at home bat visitor. Talk about a morale booster.

In hardball tournament play (for little league rs) it saves a pitcher if you loose. If i recall correctly, pitchers were only allowed 5 innings or 7 w/ 2 nights rest.
