there is no DH in slowpitch. Hope this helps. EH, extra hitter, or the DHH designated home run Hit. pitcher bats bro.

Everyone that plays in the field must bat. You can have up to 12 in the lineup and any 10 of those are eligible to play defense at any given time.

I believe there is a different ruling for ASA under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I have no idea what their requirements are but I know it is possible.

In "normal" play, you can bat more than 10 (amount varies by sanction and local league rules), meaning you can have a guy who bats but doesn't field (EH)...but you can't have someone who fields and doesn't bat.

It becomes the choice of the ADA player - defense only, offense only, or play both defense and offense. If they play offense only, then the team is using him as their one EP (or one EP for that gender if they're playing coed). If they play defense only, then the team utilizes the DP/FLEX rule from the fast pitch side.

However, anytime the ADA player bats, they are allowed a courtesy runner, which can be anyone from the bench. That player's spot in the line-up is not bound by the "one courtesy runner per inning" restriction, which is to say that that one spot can have unlimited courtesy runners.

If a player qualifies under the ADA, it must be announced prior to the game.

NC, what is required to claim protection under ADA? Is it simply the manager saying at the pre-game that this player is ADA? Or is there a process?

Good question. I've only had it come up one time in league play, but never in tournament play. In the league, it was made known to the LD in advance, and any umpires assigned to the game were notified beforehand.

If someone in the field is playing the field but doesn’t bat. What would this be considered in the end game

Possibly forfeit?

Almost no chance of getting a forfeit. If the national rules are followed and line up cards are given to the umpire and/or scorekeeper, then you would have an out in that place in the lineup the entire game if the player is listed. If the player is not listed, you now have an unannounced substitute, no penalty if it's a legal sub in USA, in USSSA it would be an ejection.
