Any Fast Pitch Bats In Slow Pitch?

Are fast pitch bats illegal in slow pitch softball?

What association do you play?

no

/thread.................

Not true. ISA Softball has Rule 4 Section 1: "2. Fast pitch bats cannot be used in adult slow pitch play"

Nope. As long as it has the stamps required for wherever you're playing.

And the bat isn't on the banned bat list. ASA banned a lot of Easton Fastpitch bats. They still have a stamp but are illegal for fast/slow pitch.

True, there are some caveats.... be we were talking in general since the question was kind of general.

Speaking ASA/NFHS/NCAA

There is no such thing as a FP bat. Calling one a FP bat is simply a marketing issue. All bats (save that mentioned below) meet the same requirements and can be used in FP & SP & MP. etc.

That said, there are newer bats that, for the time being, can be used only in SP, men's and boy's FP and the men's MP.

For ASA, as long as the bat complies with the equipment standards, and has the ASA approved marking on the bat, it is legal for use. Calling a bat "fast pitch" is just a marketing tool for the manufactures. If a guy wants to swing the pink Jenny Finch bat, giddy up!

Are there any pros or cons to using a fast pitch bat in Utrip or ASA?

Not really anymore, since bats used in NHFS and NCAA are still certified under the 2004 standards and use the harder ball (that's why bats with the new ASA stamp can't be used in HS or NCAA right now)

Not so.

To start, as far as the rules are concerned, there is no such thing as a "fastpitch" bat. There are bats that are approved for use in all games of ASA/NFHS/NCAA and there are bats that are approved for ASA SP, ASA Men's Fastpitch & Modified and ASA JO Boys SP only

RIght. THat's what I was getting at.

Doesn't that make a fast pitch bat hotter in slow pitch since the bat is made for a faster pitch, therefore the material of the bat is made for the ball to go further than a slow pitch bat. That's why you don't see a slow pitch bat in fast pitch but people use fast pitch bats in slow pitch to get the advantage

And they're more expensive on the internet than slow pitch because of the rarer material they are made of to make them hotter

you don't see slow pitch bats in fast pitch because of 2 reasons, one is the stamps needs for the bat to be legal and the weight. Fast pitch bats are usually low 20's slow pitch besides the last few years are mid to high 20's making it very hard to get around on the ball at fast pitch speeds

Doesn't anyone read these damn posts?

Again, there is no such animal as a FP bat. I think it was about 4-6 years ago when some member of Team USA were using bats that were dominant in the SP game simply because they were supposedly the hottest bats on the field and these athletes had no problem with them.

That is actually not true. You see the heavier "SP" bats being used in high school and college by those that can swing them. You see them exclusively used in ASA Men's Fast Pitch and Modified pitch.

It's my impression that bats 25 oz and lighter are considered fast pitch, and bats 26 oz and heavier are considered slow pitch.

I don't think lighter bats are made with more expensive materials.

Lighter bats get around faster when you swing them, because you aren't fighting as much inertia. And you HAVE to get the bat around faster when the ball is coming at you at a hundred miles per hour.

The lighter "fast pitch" bats don't hit the ball farther - the ball goes farther because it hits the bat at 100 mph instead of 15 mph, as in slow pitch. Throw a ball against a brick wall as hard as you can and see how far it bounces back. Then toss the ball softly underhanded against the same wall and see how far back it bounces. The faster the ball moves when it contacts the bat, the faster (and farther) it moves as it leaves the bat. Simple physics.

in ASA bats with the new stamp cannot be used in a fastpitch game. that's the only thing different in the games. it's the game being played that determines what can be used not the bat

Fixed it for you. Bats with the new stamp can be used in boys' and men's fast pitch and in men's modified.

When the 2013 stamp was first created, those bats could only be used in the slow pitch game. Guys playing Fast Pitch or Modified had to swing bats that had the 2000 or 2004 stamps. What they found was that the guys were having troubles finding usable new bats with the 2004 stamp, as most of those bats were primarily for girls' fast pitch. ASA then changed the rule to allow the guys to use the heavier 2013-stamped bats in the Modified and Fast Pitch games.
