Any force out play

Question for anybody.

In a force out situation a ground ball is hit to ss who mishandles it. He falls to his knees and crawls to second base where he touches the base with his glove on his left hand and the ball in his right hand, then throws to first for the double play. Is the runner out at second?:

Yes. The fielder only needs to contact the base while securely holding the ball in his hand or in his glove. He could fall down, have his winky come out and lay across the base while holding the ball and he would get the out.

This is no different from a first basemen stretching for a throw and touching the base with his foot.

on a scale of everyone and their mom knows this is a rule to most mlb umpires dont even know, this ranks at a lot of guys who "know the game" wouldnt know this rule.

your umbrage with the post is completely unwarranted and out of line. i wish you nothing but mediocrity and average achievements. (line stolen from a tmr podcast)

If any part of the fielder's body (including ponytail, teeth, whatever) or legally worn equipment (the bill of a cap still properly worn on the head) touches the bag, the force would count.
