New Evil BP rocket review

@Bobbybuggs was kind enough to send me some .52 bp balls to demo. I haven't hit them off of live pitching yet but I did hit them off the tee this afternoon.

I was hitting with a Suncoast Melee 3

I threw in a few well used Tatoo USA .52 275 and some almost brand new Baden Fire Classic Ms for comparison.

These balls fly very well and of course the two-tone shows how well I was able to cut the ball or spin it when hitting backside. The Evils vastly outperformed the Tatoo .52s and gave much better feedback. I liked the Evils vs the Classic Ms too. The Evils travel every bit as hard as the Classic Ms but it doesn't sound or feel like I'm breaking my bat with every swing.

Just my unscientific opinion but I feel like the .52 275s would hardly break in a senior bat and never give good feedback when hitting. I also feel like you can't really bp a senior bat with senior balls if you want your bat to last the season. The Evils thread the needle of good performance without the worry of destroying your bat.

I'll update this review after I get some live swings.

Hit the BP Rockets off of live pitching this morning with utrip bats. The balls definitely fly very well. A few rocket line drives hit off of trees just beyond the 265' fence but there were no rips or even scuffs on the covers. The balls make a very distinct crack off the sweetspot but if you miss by just a hair, the sound is noticeably different. I'm a big fan of the feedback these balls give you. The two guys I hit with loved the BP Rockets too.

If I have any complaints at all about these balls it's:
1) I hate fielding the two-tone balls, I just don't see them well.
2) I usually do tee work on 200' fileds and just practice hitting line drives off the fence. Usually I'll hit 3 or 4 out but these balls hang up longer and last time I hit close to two dozen over the fence.

Had most of my utrip team bp on Saturday with the BP Rockets. Everyone proffered them over used game balls. Great balls, no broken bats, and none got stolen. A few of my classic m balls disappeared. I'm sure guys used them to loosen up and they made their way into someone else's bag. You don't accidentally steal a two-tone bp ball.

Hit the evil rockets as well as my 70-80 old bp balls today. We were hitting with a senior melee 3, usssa nautalai, and a pure evil.

The bp rockets dramatically outperformed the rest of the balls. I was hitting with a kid that just started playing softball this weekend after 4 years of college baseball. The two-tone balls were helping him see how much backspin I was able to generate vs how he hit mostly with topspin or knuckleballs.

What's the difference between the new bo rocket and the old ones, the old one were/ate also very durable and fly as well

I don't think there's much of a difference other than: the old one i have is yellow/orange and the new ones are white/orange. The old one in my bp bag has hundreds of swings on it and still flies great.

I’m planning to order some more as these balls are holding up well and do not get waterlogged. We hit this morning and they were flying with big distance. Highly recommend getting them as they seem to be easy on my senior bats AT18, Easton Foster and Onyx Revline. All great sticks!!

^^ this is correct. Yellow/orange are 52's and perform very well, the rockets white/orange fly like crazy. So essentially stang was referring to two different balls I believe.
I was buy didn't know it. I hit today after work and it's stamped right on the orange/yellow. BP52.

Gotcha. I was under the impression that there is a new bp rocket out. But I gather that you are talking about the bp 52's ?!? Which evil/Bobby said they did do something different to them for more/better durability.

So I have an old orange/yellow bp52 and I have 2 dozen brandy new white/yellow bp rockets. It's my understanding that Evil Ball had a few down years for whatever reason but Bobby has brought them back to their former glory. So, the new bp rockets may be different, maybe not. Either way, they're legit.

Your understanding has been our BP group's experience.
There was a recent production that hit like a used bp52 right out of the wrapper using senior bats.
The original formula or manufactured balls flew like a brand new 375/44 ball using 1.21 bats and stayed that way until they deformed.
Hopefully noone here runs into the leftovers of that sub par batch (oct. '23)

Nice to know, thanks for the heads up. I have a dozen rockets that don't fall into that time frame

Are these "sub par" softballs the ones that were made in Vietnam?
