runners on 1st and 2nd no outs, batter hits a ball up the middle which goes off the pitchers glove and then hits the runner who was advancing to 3rd, 1) is the runner out? 2) does this remain a live ball play on? 3) is the call also determined on if a defensive player had an opportunity to make a play? 4) would the call be different it the ball went off the pitchers leg instead of his glove?

Once the pitcher touches it you can't have an out on the runner unless they intentionally interfere with the ball.

so once the pitcher touches the ball or it goes off his leg it's a live ball and the defense gets to make any play they can?

the only time the runner would be out was if the ball went by the pitcher with no contact and then hit the runner while off the bag

Correct. Unless the runner intentionally interferes with the ball.

AG#1 original post - runners on 1st and 2nd no outs, batter hits a ball up the middle which goes off the pitchers glove and then hits the runner who was advancing to 3rd,

1) is the runner out? Yes in all three associations, ASA Rule 8, Section 1, para E. ; USSSA Rule 8, Section 2, para 1 also addressed in Rule 9, Section 2, para K ; SSUSA Rule 8.2.C.2 and also Rule 9.1.X

2) does this remain a live ball play on? Yes the ball is alive in all three associations until it strikes the runner then the runner is out and dead ball. If the ball were not to strike a runner it remains alive for the defense to make a play, etc, etc

3) is the call also determined on if a defensive player had an opportunity to make a play? defensive player position is considered, if ball has passed defensive players and strikes runner, no effect, if strikes runner prior to and in front of defensive player, runner is always out

4) would the call be different it the ball went off the pitchers leg instead of his glove? NO in all three associations, ball is alive regardless of hitting glove, player part, or uniform

Answers above from NCASAUmp are incorrect for 1,2,3 and correct for 4

You might want to read a little bit further.

USSSA Rule 8.12.H Base Runners are not out if: When a base runner is hit by a batted ball that has passed or touched a fielder.

Rule 9.2.K The ball is live and in play when: When a fair-batted ball strikes an umpire or base runner after touching a fielder or after passing any fielder including the pitcher/infielder

USA Rule 8.8.F The runner is not out: When a runner is hit by a fair batted ball after it touches or is touched by any fielder, including the pitcher, and the runner could not avoid contact with the ball.

This rule doesn't even apply to the situation in the OP.
Why not? 8.1.E.1 says when a fair batted ball strikes the person, attached equipment or clothing of an umpire or a runner: After touching a fielder, including the pitcher. Effect: The ball remains live.

Uhhh… try again. Actually, save us all the hassle, and don’t.

You are correct, when i originally answered i didn't dig deep enough in the ASA rule book, Rule 8, Section 8, para F, if the runner can't avoid being hit with the batted ball after it careens off the pitcher or any other fielder, he is not out. You're right, i'm wrong, good job in getting me and anyone else corrected.
