Safety base

Please give me as much information as you can about the rules pertaining to the safety base at first.
q1.....if the throw from right field causes the first baseman to use the 'red' base, must the b/r then use the 'white' base?
q2.....after reaching first base, does the 'double' base now get treated as one base? (as in returning to the base on a throw back to first).

q2....yes it becomes one base
q1....the batter/runner running towards 1st base may cross over to the inside bag (white) to avoid a collision if a wild throw occurs. The fielder may tag the outside of the bag (orage) to record the out in this situation
