NSA safety base

Please give me as much information as you can about the rules pertaining to the safety base at first.
q1.....if the throw from right field causes the first baseman to use the 'red' base, must the b/r then use the 'white' base?
q2.....after reaching first base, does the 'double' base now get treated as one base? (as in returning to the base on a throw back to first).

1) the rule states that the B/R "may" cross over the white bag to avoid a collision in the case of an errant throw....he may also veer to the right and avoid both bags to avoid a collision....then it is again umpire judgement in whether he would have been safe going directly to the orange bag....2) yes the bag is merged as one
