Weird One

Had one I've never seen or heard of before. I was pitching and had a pitch that would start out at a left handed batter and curve over the plate (we use a mat) . The pitch was coming back perfectly when the left handed batter caught the ball. What is The Call? Our ump, the head up for our leagues, called it a ball. This is SSUSA if that makes a difference.

If the batter prevented the ball from crossing the plate, in USA and USSSA I've got a strike. Don't know what the ruling would be in SSUSA, possible they have a different interpretation but I would doubt it.

there is no specific rule in ssusa to cover this... it would be umpire judgment .. if there was ANY CHANCE that the pitch would land on the strike mat I would have a strike and tell the batter not to catch the pitch next time if he complained

there is no INT. call for a batter catching a pitch in senior softball .. there is no stealing .. so the pitch is either called a strike or a ball.. umpire judgment
