Yet Another Rule Question

In the CO-ED game before us last night (yes I know.. most have stopped reading already) a girl 'hit' the ball and it landed in front of the plate fair. She then dropped the bat on the ball..she didn't throw the bat at the ball..nor did it look like she did it on purpose but..the bat did indeed hit the ball (again)

Any idea what the call is?

A little Hamlet comes to mind...

Here lies the ball. Good. Here lies the bat. Good. If the bat go to this ball and hits it, it is, will he, nill he, he's out, mark you that. But if the ball come to the bat and hits it, he outs not himself: argal, he that is not guilty of hitting the ball twice shortens not his own at bat.
