Is the game actually ruined?

The most fun tournaments usually have 3 divisions.Declare your preferred placement to help with seeding games. Play 3 games get placed by that record and seeded. Double elimination. Most good players wont sandbag as saying we won Lower is harder to brag about than we won a E tournament. 12-24 teams works best. This format gets more league teams out for tournies as the get to play without getting rolled. Than these league teams start combining and making more competitive teams. Hr limits is the wrong way to classify teams. Once classified correctly a progressive or plus one or even designated hr hitter will give enough long balls to keep things fun. Softball is a hr sport and more times than not the losing of balls is more a reason Tourney directors make low hr limits than anything to do with sandbagging. Giving teams 3 balls with there team name with option to buy more spares or replacements for when there on offense keeps balls coming back. 44/375 or 44/400 is a good ball choice unless fields are tiny. Stadium tournaments with unlimited hr's are lot of fun and not done enough as well. Bring the fun back and teams will show. Bat rules hardly matter the new bats are all so good now. Most tournies here are anything but senior and nobody complains. Using a 52/300 and any bat should be allowed.

That sounds good, if leagues can figure out a ranking system, you would think a TD could do the same.

Exactly. Drive the marginal players away cuz they don't matter. They only buy one bat if that at all and a $20 glove. Who cares about those guys anyway. If you can't play this game at a high level, that is why there are kickball leagues.

Well now that's the problem. You shouldn't have to worry about hitting hr, it never used to be a problem. With today's bats and balls, half the guys can hit it out with some sort of regularity, if they're good. It used to be only a handful of guys would have that ability. So restricting homeruns was not needed, because you'd be lucky to have 5 or 6 a game. If you think you're a homerun hitter, then pick up an old double wall, anyone, and swing away, if you're still hitting hr, then you're a homerun hitter, if not then your a product of equipment and not really the masher you think you are.

Sooooooooo funny dude. I hit home runs at every level of ball I've ever played........Even back with worse bats and harder balls. When they started to limit home runs, I still hit dbo's by accident........And they started to restrict home runs, waaaaaaaay back before there were composite bats. The first I ever heard of it was 1987...Anyone with any real, natural power hits a few dbo's. So, don't make like it's the bat doing all of the hitting.

Thats called paying your dues. Kids these days just don't know, otherwise 28's and 30's would be the most popular weights instead of 26's.

How do you expect the twerps to swing a 34oz bat?

The first few bats I bought were the blue Louiseville Slugger and Steeles XLT..........Both were 34/ 34.......The Louisevill Slugger was $69 and the Steeles was $125......I remember thinking, "Woah! That's a lot of money for a bat."

I bought my 30oz Powercells for $50 each. Couldn't decide if I liked the Rose or Rickard so I bought both. Think they were on clearance.

When I turned 18, old enough to play on my own, Demarini had just come out with their stuff and I wanted one in the worst way but my motorcycle took priority. Kept swinging my dad's cheapo Easton's, a 34/38 for practice and a 34/34 gamer. Still have the 38, wish I still had the 34.

I was pretty much automatic with that Rickard. They put me at leadoff I got on so often. But those 260-280' were too much for my scrawny ass, but I hit a **** ton of triples.

What were balls back in the 90's? I never paid any attention except there were some cork balls and some that were solid plastic. They flew off those crappy bats and I don't remember guys complaining about fielding them.

I have owned this for damn near 30 years. Or 20 years after swing started playing for those keeping track. It's not hot.

We hit a lot of Blue Dots back then. I think they were the same as a 44/475 or so........We also hit Hot Dots.....47/525's....That was fun.

They were real balls.

****, with all these MLB pitchers getting drilled, surprised they haven't gone to 52/300 baseballs.

Is that an SX1? That's what my 38oz and 34oz were, B5 specials!

That explains a lot.

I still have my dad's 28.5 supercell. Hit my first home run when I was barely 18 with it. Also have his Worth 38 oz socialist special. In Soviet Russia, bat swings you.

Right.......And pitchers weren't crying or bitching. :)

The pitchers weren't getting peppered by guys trying not to hit DBO's after the homerun limit was reached.

I've never seen someone go middle in an unlimited hr tourney. Not once.

Switching over to arm-wrestling...sick of all the crybabies in this sport. At least with arm-wrestling you are either better or worse, win or lose, no cheating and festivals are more fun also.

I wish that was the case. We have unlimited homerun tournies as fundraisers usually at the end of the season wben its about 55-60 degrees out using 44/525 and I see middle hit constantly. I pitch and its very common to get blown up in these tournies.

As far as raising hr limits to limit sandbagging, that will have the reverse effect, at least from what ive seen. Teams that arent very good play at the lower levels and then you get the really good teams with great bat control, wil play at that level to roll through tournies. Tohe higher the homerun limit, the more chance upper level players will drop because now they can free swing and still take advantage of the lesser teams. It mainly falls on the directors to determine what level a team should be playing at that should be the standard nation wide. For example, and Ill throw myself under the bus, I played for an Nsa elite/ usssa c team. I quit mid year a d was allowed to drop to a d team which ended up winning d state. 2 weeks later, I was given permission to go to usssa e world with a local team. The team I went with was a very true E team and we got pounded by a team that hit the ball as hard and with accuracy as many of the teams I played against at the c level. If the game is ever going to fixed, there needs to be a. Individual player classification and those players will have to play at the level they have been put at. I know its easier said than done, but raising the homerun limit will eliminate the C and above levels

I don't remember pitcher's crying about middle cause everyone was going for the longball, any crying that took place was about blue's call. That was a long time ago though, didn't know anything about associations, tournaments, or best bats.

Game on!
Do away with trophies and pay teams a reimbursement for winning it all based on the number of teams in a tourney. Lower the level the less you get for a reimbursement. It cost teams money so if you win you should get money back. Trophies or dust collectors are worthless.

For the record: I never said, more home runs across the board or harder balls across the board. Just that if you're willing to take that risk and want to hit a harder ball with higher home run limits, then there should be some allowance for that within the associations. Not just "Here is your .52/300 ball and 3 homeruns...............Go for it....." across the board. League directors are too stupid and lazy to think for themselves and do anything than what the associations are telling them. When what they really should be doing is saying, "Your highest available division in league and nationals will be hitting this ball and get 6 home runs. All other levels will be hitting this ball and get 3, 2 and 1 accordingly......." I mean, is it really that hard?
