ASA Baserunning on a homerun...

In a game the other night runners on 1st and 3rd, batter hits a homerun. It's a "hit and sit" league, but the batter chooses to run the bases and so do the runners on 1st and 3rd. Batter ends up passing the guy who was on first right before touching home. What should the ruling been, ump declared runner and batter out.

Well, everyone is wrong here. The runners for going, the umpire for calling the batter-runner out and for also calling the runner out.

ASA rules state the a homerun is a dead ball and the bases are given to the batter and runners. No reason to run. If they ran, they ran during a dead ball, so it doesn't matter who passes who. All bases had already been awarded, so realistically, the runners and batter had already touched home.

If it is a hit and sit league then running the bases was during a dead ball and has no more bearing on the game than running to the dugout or running to go get the ball you hit. Running the bases was lame, but calling runners out is pretty dumb. As an ump, I would have simply told them to hurry up and not delay the game.
