The Hungarian Barbarian
Come to Norcal, be willing to check id's, and have at least a 3 tier class system. Some version of a rec, lower, and upper system would be fine and simple.

How many associations do we really need?

The more associations there are out there, the more diluted the market becomes. The more diluted the market becomes, the more difficult it is to get enough teams to make a tournament. The more difficult it is to make a tournament, the less ball you guys get to play.

Most associations spring up because of a faction's dissatisfaction with one major association or another. Instead of taking your ball and going home, work with the association directly and figure out some middle ground. Otherwise, deciding on an alphabet soup and striking out on your own, while noble and absolutely American, is actually counterproductive to the sport.

Yeah but in today's game better to "win" an offbeat association tournament with 5 teams then it is to go 2-2 in a 15 team tournament. Now they can be called "champions" for the rest of their lives and people will bow to them.

No to mention with Winter, Spring, Fall and regular "Worlds" plus any minority "Worlds" there are now like 75 "World" Champions every year, including the pissed off guys who didn't get their "rings" from the 5 team GSL Worlds in LV recently.

Amen to that.

And do you know why ASA doesn't call their tournaments "Worlds?" It's because of an agreement they have through their partnership with ISF, the REAL international softball organization that, coincidentally, does have slow pitch.
