Knothole

Can someone explain to me what knothole is? I grew up playing little league or a version of it. In the town I moved to, they play knothole. Does anyone what the differences are between the two? Thanks

The term "knothole" comes from the time when youngsters would watch their favorite teams through the "knotholes" in the wooden outfield fences instead of paying.
