Lingering injury effects question

See a doctor, I know and I plan on if it gets worse, just getting input.

Last weekend I took a line drive to the eye area. So I've been sporting a black eye for the last week. Recently though the eye itself has started to hurt and has become sensative to light. I haven't had a black eye since I was a kid so I don't remember if this is part of the process or not. I can see properly and depth perception is fine, just a sore eyeball. Oh, and it's still pretty red and bloodshot.

Any input?

You got hit in the eye. You probably should have gotten it checked out when it happened. Who knows what kind of damage was done. Sore eyeballs don't come with black eyes

It was during a tournament and a 2hr wait at the hospital. I wanted to get back to my team. Figured I'd just ice it and it would go away.

Brag post in disguise?

Wat?

It doesn't hurt that bad, it's just like a bruise sort of feeling. There doesn't appear to be swelling of the eye and it's not a pulsing pain, just kind of a "if I rub the eye, it hurts a bit more."

I'd like to ideally hear in from the guy who said he watched his 3B take one to the face (in another thread) and see if his guy experienced anything like this. It doesn't seem serious, that's why I haven't gone to the doc already.

Oh, did I mention there was numbness in my face too? In a line that goes down from my eye to my upper lip, and my lip itself is pretty numb in a spot. The teeth behind it feel weird too, not loose or painful just... weird.

That's called "Nerve Damage" doofus.

I don't know if you meant me, but I've mentioned my experience a few times:

I've seen pitchers get hit, and a couple years ago I had to watch my good friend and 3B get hit in the face, spend a week in two different hospitals, and have several surgeries over the course of 8 months. He always wears a mask now

To go a little more in depth....he got hit kinda right between the eyes. Shattered (flattened) his nose and his broke his orbital bones. He went to the local hospital, but for some reason they couldn't stop the nose from bleeding, even with a few surgeries, including plastic surgery to fix up the nose. He had to be transported to a specialist at a larger hospital downtown Chicago. They were able to contain the bleeding there, but for the next 8 months he couldn't do anything. No contact whatsoever. The whole time his nose was runny. They finally did one last surgery to fix his nose as best they could, but he'll have issues forever. He didn't have any eye problems, just black eyes for a couple weeks.

Bottom line man: it's your face. It's your eyes. They're kind of important. It may just be nothing, or it could be something much more serious that you can't see or even feel

Get your **** to the doctor... your eye isn't worth taking chances on if there is anything serious/lingering there.

I don't think it was you, but it's possible. The guy who was mentioned didn't seem to have that much damage. Just a swollen eye area, like mine.

Proidiot,
You must be terribly stupid! Danger, I hope ou get well soon! Have that eye checked out regardless.

Nah, I'm really not stupid. If it was a huge concern and I thought it was serious, I'd have gone a long time ago. I haven't had any debilitating side effects, so it hasn't been a priority, and all my friends/family in health care or sports injury fields have told me to just suck it up and it'll go away in time because it's normal for a hit to the face (ball, fist, otherwise).

Dude, you're Canadian. With universal healthcare, you have no excuse. Get someone to check it out!

That's the myth about the public healthcare. Wait times are huge because people go to see the doc for everything from a hang-nail to a headache. I have little desire to waste my time, the clinic's time, and the time of the people waiting for a real treatment/diagnosis to hear something like, "Yeah, you took a line drive to the face, it's gonna hurt. Take a tylenol and gtfo."

I was told to wait it out a bit to see if the symptoms would go away and go in a week or two if they lingered, it's been a week now so I posted here to see if this is "normal" healing stuff. Plus, it's Canadian Thanksgiving today, there is no chance I'm going to try to see a doctor today (only places that are open are emerg rooms at the hospitals, and this is far from an emerg).

You NEED a CT scan of the orbit!! You could have fractured one or more of the bones around the eye and if not fixed properly you could go blind. The numbness is likely form nerve injury secondary to trauma. It could be temporary or it could be the fracture is entrapping the nerve and that can cause permanent damage. You need to get it checked NOW. Hopefully its just bad swelling but you need to know.

PS- I am a General/Trauma Surgeon

Guys, there is no pain on my skull. None at all. If it was fractured, I'd think pressing anywhere on my orbital would be excrutiating. There is no pain on the orbital, the nose, my cheekbone, etc. One of my best friends is a concussions and sports injury researcher, he was there at the time of the hit and has been there all along. I completely trust him on this, it's jut the light sensetivity to light I was a bit worried about.

I'll be getting it checked out this week, but in the mean time I'm kind of liking all this negativity and telling me my skull is broken :p

Yeah, I played a bit in the tournament that it occurred in (no fielding and only a few at bats) when it was still a bit swollen and definitely all black. I had a game last week on Wednesday and played well and another this Wednesday :D.

If you mean Proboskus, he's a guy who is on my team(s) and is goofing around.

First You couldn't be more wrong. Second concussions are completely different from facial fractures. Third its ultimately your choice and you can do whatever you want but stop asking for opinions/help if you're just going to make excuses and not listen to people who have nothing to gain other than trying to help someone out

It's not that I don't value the input, it's that I'm only a little willing to take seriously the guys who call me an idiot and THEN post their take on the situation. I do appreciate what I'm being told, but certain things just really seem like over exagerations based on the limited amount of pain I'm feeling.

I'd listen to the surgeon. IJS. Since your so wrapped up in sport, I'm sure you see the increase in precautions taken on head injuries suffered by people wearing helmets FFS. Get checked out before you regret no getting checked out.

Could be about time to close this thread. Correct info has already been given.

It has been a week and the eye has not resolved. listen to the Doc, go see your own. unless you want to entertain the possiblity of not playing softball again.

Let it age so I can revive it with the doc's diagnosis, rather than make a new post.
