Need help with an ASA rule

if a person gets in the batters box and a pitch is thrown but he is an illegal batter and they stop after the pitch is thrown and put the real batter to the plate. what is the call here.

i thought he was out because the pitch was thrown and he was an illegal batter.

What do you mean by illegal? I am assuming you are talking about incorrect batter or a batter out of order. If so he just assumes whatever the count is at the time they correct the error.

The only way you can put the batter in is if the illegal batter has not stepped into the box. Since the first pitch was thrown he was clearly in the box

Bubbaboy, go check your rule book again.

If the incorrect batter is discovered during the at-bat but after the first pitch, you simply put the correct batter in the batter's box, assume whatever count that the incorrect batter had on him, and continue playing.

Next time, let him complete his at bat and appeal before the next pitch to get an out ;)

Did this a few weeks ago :D
What made it even better was that the guy batting out of order had hit an RBI double. Or at least thought he did

It's good to know the rule book.

Taking the question at face value...

An illegal batter is one who has no right to be in the line-up, like a player who has been inserted that has no re-entry left or a starter who has left the game and then re-entered in a spot other than his original spot in the batting order. The illegal batter would be called out and disqualified from the rest of the game.

If this was an improper batter- a player who was legally in the line-up but simply batted out of order- that is something entirely different. You have already got the answer for an improper batter batting put of order.

An improper batter and an illegal batter are two different things covered by two different rules.
