OBP question

There's a runner on 1B, and the batter hits the 7-8 gap to the fence. The base coach holds the runner that was on 1B to 3B, but the batter proceeds to run to 3B forcing an easy out at home plate.

For batting stats, is this an out or a triple?

I'd score that as a double and advance on the throw. Not going to reward the batter for making a baserunning mistake. He should have stayed at second. In fact, if the runner remained on third and the batter-runner got there, the batter-runner would be at risk of being put out since that wasn't a base to which he was entitled.
