Sponsorship Question?

I am new to trying to find a sponsor, I have a few questions, hoping for some help.

Can a business write off their donation/sponsorship?
Can you make you team tax exempt?

click on "search this thread" option, type in tax exempt, and do the search, two of the first three results should talk about sponsorship letters and tax exempt in the title, and will provide most of your answers. There is good information in them supporting statements like that unless your team outputs lots of money into a charitable activity, you are more then likely not able to become tax exempt (describes 501c status IIRC). as to businesses, they are able to write off sponsorship as marketing expenditures.
