Thoughts on conditioning horween?

Might be dumb but I just picked up a NWOT SBF Horween DJ2 through a trade, and was wondering if it was okay to condition it with Sarna conditioner. I know for most gloves it wouldn’t matter, but I know horween isn’t the same (tanning wise). Just wanna hear your thoughts.

Nice glove.

I’m the wrong person to ask about Sarna due to the additives they use. I think they have some good social media sponsorship which is why they are so ubiquitous these days.

In general, I prefer to use an oil based conditioner for softening hard spots/rubs and a balm type conditioner for general conditioning and water resistance.

I'm old-school and I use mink oil on my gloves. I can't really speak to anything else. Good luck. Nice looking glove.

I hear Ball Players Balm is the new kid on the block, never used it but hear it‘s great. For Horween I like to give the glove a good wipe down with a hot moist towel to clean it off, not getting it too wet. Also like to blow the glove off inside and out lightly with compressed air.

Let it throughly dry (probably the next night) and then give it a good wipe down with Surf City Voodoo Blend, nothing heavy. This has worked very well for me.

Sorry, never used Sarna before.

I’ve heard good things as well about BPB. You just have to be careful on which one you use. They have a variety that adds tack which can be problematic.

Never heard the hot moist towel before but you know more than me, so I’ll definitely have to give that a go!

I only wondered about Sarna because I bought it based on reviews saying it doesn’t change the color too much and it doesn’t make the glove heavy like some other conditioners. I’ve used it the last month or so and don’t have any complaints. I want to try Ball Players Balm for sure.

That’s completely understandable, it’s definitely more of a water based conditioner which I think is why it doesn’t leave the glove dark afterwards. You’re totally right about their media influence as well, Youtube is how I first heard about them.

I follow Ball Players Balm on Instagram, definitely wanna give them a try. I know they make different ones for light and dark leather I believe.
