batter hits a ball about 8 ft over his head to the catcher who moves forward and is standing on the the plate, the batter is still standing in the batters box toward the front of the box in fair territory with the bat in his hand and the tip of the bat in the dirt waiting for the catcher to catch the ball , the catcher loses the ball in the sun and the ball goes off his glove and then strikes the batters bat before touching the ground and ends up rolling down the 3rd baseline
what's the call?

Assuming the ball is touched by the catcher over fair territory, it is a fair batted ball

It’s most likely a fair batted ball unless you think there was intent to interfere on the batter.

Since the batter is still holding the bat, would it count as a double hit? I’m not sure if the bat is considered in the field of play if it’s still being held by the batter.

Not coming off the catcher's glove

If the catcher touches it in fair territory, and no interference was called it is a fair ball.

Okay...…. First thing...…..

Where the catcher is standing is irrelevant. All that matters is where the ball was when touched.
Over fair territory = Fair Ball
Over foul territory = Foul Ball

Second thing..….

Once the ball is touched by the catcher in fair territory it is a fairly batted ball. End of story. The only other determinations that could possibly be made at this point is whether or not the batter purposely made contact with the ball or interfered with the catcher's ability to make the catch.
