Dirty Slide?

So this weekend at a local tourny my team was down 5 in the 4th I was on 1st and the guy behind me hits a grounder to 3rd. Guy bobbles it a bit but they might have still had a dp in the works. 2nd basement has his foot on the inside of the bag, I get down as he catches the ball I catch his back leg and down he goes hard. His team exploded the crowd went nuts and I asked if he was ok then trotted off the field. I got warned by the ump saying it was a dirty slide. I thought i was just breaking up a dp ball. What's your take on sliding for a dp break up?

I think it's bush league and it shouldn't happen. I also think the guy behind you should be cut for hitting a routine ground ball.

You're a douche.

If you just got to 2nd as he is catching ball definately close enough to go in hard and slide. It too bad if he dont know how to protect himself.

Doesnt sound dirty to me, the only time i consider a slide/collision dirty at the 2 bag is when thier slide leg comes up off the ground, but if hes in the way of your base progression its his own d*** fault.

That's the thing. It was really close n his leg was in my way. Not my fault he went down hard and yea seeing as I'm batting 4 n he is 5th and he is a horrible hitter he should be moved down or cut. But he is the coach so I have no say

Of course you go hard into 2nd base. Who cares if someone gets injured? You can sleep easy on your comfortable pile of championship t-shirts.

As log as spikes aren't up, your good. Why is his foot on the inside of the bag? Certainly don't block the bag on a force play, let alone one you might turn 2 on. Even on a tag play, drop a leg there but not a foot. I'd be upset as your teammate if you didn't try and break up the double play.

you Sir sound like a 2nd baseman that cant get out of the way fast enough  as a middle infielder you should always expect a slide is coming, esp tourney ball. If its a close play what is the runner suppose to do, just give up. Im sure the slide wasnt meant to be dirty...just part of the game.

What do you mean by "back leg"?

Was his foot between the bag and you? If so, tough ****. But if you hit him and his leg was anywhere else, dirty slide. There's no contact allowed in almost any sanctioned softball.

Face it..your a dirty player and you got called out...I mean, who slides into 2nd base? Hustling down the base path is for rec league trying to make a tourney team. Didn't anyone tell you, this is softball. Next time the ball is hit in front of you, just trot towards 2nd and then go have a seat....That way "bros" here can burn ya for not hustling....LOL, you can't make everyone agree.

Why is the #4 hitter on 1st?

It's SOFTBALL not baseball your were that guy the league douce ya know .

I agree totally, taking out someones back leg to break up a play in softball is a douche move. You aren't a pro and getting paid and 99% of people who play softball have to get up and go to work in the morning. There are enough freak injuries and accidents that happen to begin with in the game without some jacktard taking people out to break up a DP...

Please show me the rule in the rule book where it says no sliding in softball... I wont hold my breathe douche. Is the runner suppose to go into 2nd standing up and bulldoze the baseman? That might work out better

A lot of the guys who play this game really need some perspective. (It's just a game, regardless of the level of play). Are you planning to chip in some cash for the guy's knee surgery? I have been pretty lucky (or "good enough") to avoid getting injured on double plays. There is a pretty clear difference between sliding and trying to take out the guy on 2nd.

I see this more in the younger guys that are use to playing baseball. Ill admit I used to do it, but Ill be 30 this year and dont want the extra wear and tear on the body. I am not as fast as I was but if the batter cant get to first without me breaking up the double play its his fault. Hit it in the grass knucklehead.

So do you tell little leaguers or High School baseball players this too since they aren't getting paid to play? "Don't slide hard into 2nd to break up 2 b/c that kid has to get up and go to class tomorrow."

It is part of the game. Players sort of police themselves and know who is intentionally dirty, who is just a moron and who plays the game hard but within the rules.

I'd say either the ump is a douche or there is more to the story than the OP is stating. I want to know more about WHY he was warned. Apparently someone (ump) thought it was mildly dirty.

A lot of whiny bitches up in this...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hard slides into 2nd are acceptable....just go hard at the bag, not the player....if he don't get out of the way sliding at the bag then he is fair game.

Per the above statement, I'm going to assume you hit the guy on purpose. This is not gtg. Is it really worth it if it means you might possible injure someone? There's enough accidental crap causing injuries without looking to do it on purpose. I play 2 and had a guy come up over the bag, cleats up and take me out just below the knees.....in co-ed rec..... (and I was on the outside corner, farthest away from 1st) Flipped me in the air and I landed on my back. Luckily I just had the wind knocked out of me. Then he was all apologetic. Dude...ya hit me on purpose....please don't apologize....it makes you look even more douchy.

lol its ****ing slow pitch softball, not the mlb. Why in the hell would you intentionally try to injure someone that has to get up and go to work the next morning. Dirty slide I think so. **** you.

There should be no need to break up a DP. If the batter can't beat out the throw after it goes to 2nd maybe he needs to work on his speed/running. No need to have people on the team that don't hustle.

^^This.
I play second and I expect to get hit in the leg, foot or glove if I'm on that side of the bag.

On the other hand the 2nd baseman should be sure to throw at the runners head if he fails to get out of the way. From little league to senior softball that is definitely part of the game.

MIs should know how to protect themselves, a hard slide to break up a DP is fine as long as its into the bag and your not rolling or twisting to make sure you draw contact. If you dont like that part of the game, switch positions.

I would never teach a kid to play dirty, so basically, yes.

I am pretty sure that if the umpire issued a warning that it was a suspect play. I would guess that the OP is more of the "just a moron" variety than "intentionally dirty", but if people keep telling him to just play hard and ignore the haters he is never going to learn until someone gets hurt.

OR until he slides hard into a hot headed MI and pisses them off.
