why? these are pretty much useless. can get better productivity from tablet or cheap laptop.

I agree, but telling that to an 8 year old who uses them at school becomes pointless. He has his mind set on this and he'll just learn the hard way. Then once he figures that out, he'll bother me for a computer. That's why I was looking for a discount or used one.

How much productivity does an 8 year old need? A Chromebook is a fine, inexpensive option for something to surf the net and do online school stuff.

I think it's more than enough productivity for him and fits the price range that i'd be willing to spend.
