We're on week 2 and will be canceled again. It seems Wednesday over the last few years is the worst day to try and play.
It has been pretty rough.

Supposed to play at Noble tonight. Since they tore down the fields at Becker, our Brooklyn Center league is going to have a couple games at Noble (to go with Centennial and Evergreen like always).

By far the worst ump I've ever had. We're pretty lucky to have some great umpires in MN (although one moved to will still comes back to MN for a couple tournaments a year-- EAJuggalo). Guys who are easy to talk to, hustle out to get into position for the calls, know the rulebook, and generally seem to be out there because they enjoy umpiring.

Kenny is not one of them.
Not me this year Beau. I didn't register USSSA and the only two tournaments I plan on working for USA are WI state and some midwest conference thing they have coming to Steven's Point. No one on this side of the state plays with a strike zone, it's all mat ball, and goofy mat ball at that. The mat goes from four inches in front of the plate, four inches on either side and then 30 inches back. I actually lost money umpiring the last two years.

That mat sounds like the worst zone ever.

Not if you're a pitcher! Even better is when the plate is a strike too! Wisco co-ed mat ball used to net me a few K's a game.
I would love it as a pitcher. Especially if they let me get away with flat knuckleballs. I threw one Monday night that started out behind the batter and ended up landing just outside the black of the plate. It was called a ball (flat) but it wasn't flat by much.

Kenny in all my years playing ball has never been good, I started playing some ball tourneys in '05 throw together teams and such. Our throw together VFW team played in the Brooklyn Center league when A and B teams were common, we took our lumps but kept playing. We played Mckinnley Hill about 10 times that season at different tourneys and league, they hated us, we hated them. Any playing in a NIT we are throttling them, up 15+, ball is hit in the gap, we going to be scoring more runs, runner is coming home from third, ball still rolling in the outfield, catcher steps out infront of the plate and levels our base-runner, lays him out, hes hurt spiting blood out. Our Coach/player comes running out. Guess whos umping, Kenny. Coach asks kenny are you going to make a call or kick the catcher out. Nope says kenny. Our coach goes nuts. Kid ends up with a broken collar bone, chipped tooth. Our coach gets thrown out of the game, one player is now hurt and our coach/player is thrown out we only have 8. Kenny yells forfeit your done.
Here the deal, Kenny does not try one bit. He never moves, he is wrong more then he is right, He once rang up a player on my team in the dudley years ago when the ball hit in the middle of the plate. Why people let him ump their tourneys is beyond me, completely ruins the experience. Umps make mistakes, heck i've umped and made mistakes, but I hustle, try and act like i care to be there, Kenny does not do any of these things.

Average, at best
I used to love Corky's but this last weekend I missed for the first time in 7 years and I wasn't even upset.

-It's gotten far too big that it's lost a lot of it's luster.
-Watching out of state teams that are classified incorrectly winning C and D gets old.
-Consolation brackets? Silly.
-No updated online brackets? How? It's 2019. Figure it out.

Kenny does suck as an ump. Saw him out at the Easton tournament umping the Swing Kingz/Stoop game not moving. Two step? More like No Step. He doesn't give a crap. He goes on FB and talks like he barely can read or write. Problem is... when no one wants to ump anymore he'll gladly collect for standing there for an hour at a time since he knows he'll hear it from players. He doesn't care. Why should he? He's getting paid.

I do agree that it seems like Corky's has gotten too big, which is both a blessing and a curse.

It's great that so much money is being brought in for the community and the local kids sports. If I was another community, I'd look into trying to get something like this going and building it up. The numbers I saw for what it brings in, if you could get half that for somewhere else, you'd be killing it.

From a playing perspective, it sucks because if you're in D, you're not really in Corky's. You're at some deal 10 minutes away with no brackets to look at to double check where you're supposed to go to next (because you're not supposed to use the online brackets as a final bracket). In C, it's not so bad, other than the classification thing for out of state teams.

That bastard almost got to yell at an ump for the first time ever. Every time he umps one of my game I know I’m in for some BS.

I couldn't agree more about Corky's. It's great for the community. But, you lose the integrity of the tournament pretty quickly. There are some pretty simple things that Loren should learn from.

- STOP scheduling games at the outer fields with no lights at 7PM. Games are ALWAYS running behind. We played at 8AM on Saturday and were supposed to play at 7PM on Saturday. The field was almost 2 hours behind. We were told that we may play after 10PM on Saturday at the main fields after scheduled games. At 9:30PM we find out that we have been moved to 7AM on Sunday. That's actually better than playing at 11PM and getting up for an 8AM, but it would've been nice to know before guys waited around.
- No one wants to play the consolation bracket. It's pointless.

/end rant

I've literally walked off the field in league games with him umping, there is 0 point wasting my time playing when hes umping because half the time hes not even paying attention, doesnt know the score, is b.s'ing with some clown behind the back stop, hell i've seen him go sit in the bleachers during a league game he was supposed to be umping, we umped our own game.
As for the corkeys thing, I completely get it, as D and C teams who are in fairbault or at some random fields you dont feel like you are part of the tourney, kinda how I felt as a C team playing over at Dred Scott for firemens, dont get me wrong i love fenced fields, but to go from one side of bloomington to the other is like a 20 minute drive or longer depending on traffic Half the time i just went home instead of diving over to the main firemens fields. I didnt get to play in corkeys this year, my team did but I'm on the DL, I did miss being there and seeing the familiar faces, however maybe the tourny is too big. Last year i didnt leave the park until 1:30 am sunday morning after we finished up our last game against Comatose. I got to the park at noon that day and we played 3 games in 12 hours with a rain delay. Im not sure what the alternatives are other then getting rid of the the consolation bracket
