Numbers are way down everywhere and very few teams want to play sanctioned events. USSSA State only has 8 D teams and 9 E teams. 10 years ago when I started working it, it was like 15 E and 20 D teams.
Asa had 30 C 50 D and probably 30 E then. I think it's 15 and 15 this year. And C is combined into open that maybe got 8 for A/B/C

For real, I've never run into a problem like this.

Last week - Was short EIGHT guys for league
This week - Short at least four

The fall ball drop-off is real. I think it's even weirder this year w/ the all the rain-outs from spring/summer. Anybody else struggling to get guys to play?

I don’t think I’ve ever had it that bad. Though the teams I’m on now all have big ass rosters because people are missing every week for kids stuff.

I think I’m going to end up trying to pick up with someone for the Military tourney. Need to get into at least one tourney this year.

I wouldn't mind getting one more good tournament in this weekend if anyone needs an E card ASA/Uncarded UTrip pitcher
🤣

Doesn't seem like the "kid stuff" is out of control. I think it ties into specialized sports stuff at such young ages. Your 8 year old doesn't need to play 177 games of baseball.

Some of it is that people sign up for crazy things like that. Then you have a second or third kid doing the same thing, and summers are booked.

Same apparently goes for hockey...so that was an easy one to rule out for my boys. It helps that I've lived in Minnesota my entire life and never put on a pair of ice skates.

I ref hockey in the winters. The amount of emails I've already gotten to work "showcases" for 10-14 year olds in the last month has shocked me. And this is in a non-hockey hotbed in Eastern Wisconsin, I couldn't even imagine what it would be like in the Cities.

There are multiple tournaments every weekend in April and May, then again from the end of July through August. In between there are a few others, just not as many.

September is at a little lighter for younger kids, but HS kids have those showcase tourneys or elite league.

(My youngest is playing this weekend, which is why I can’t play Stiftungfest)

Now that P5 is closed, I’ll have to find a new place to hit (or pretend like I’m going to go hit).

Reggie will pretty much have mini-tournaments every Friday and something bigger on the weekends from here on out down in Rosemount. I think that's a bit of a haul for you, but it's usually a good time.

Unless you hit like I did on Saturday, which was positively embarrassingly bad.

There are a ton of places to hit. There is a place in Arden Hills as well.
That’s probably the closest. What’s it called?

I know the south metro has a bunch of places too, but a bit of a hike from St. Michael.

Hit Club Baseball Training.... It's kind of cool, even when they aren't open... you get access with a code, obviously they have cameras.

I ran from the bus stop to my house and back because my kid wanted her hat and gloves. Felt like I was going to pull every muscle in my legs.

Should be ready for league OF in a month.
There's a reason I don't own anything more than trail runners at this point. If I'm forced to play in the grass, things have gone horribly wrong for very similar reasons.

First games of the year tonight.

Do I want to be playing in general? Yes. Do I love playing in 40F, rain, and wind...on last year's dead grass? Not so much.

That’s a real early start for a league. Not jealous.

We get started 2 weeks from tomorrow in Champlin. Ideally it’s cold enough that my pop ups travel further, but warm enough that it doesn’t make running and throwing suck.

On the other hand, most leagues in the S Metro canceled last night because of all the crazy weather hysteria...and then, it was nice enough for EVERYONE to have played.

Mid to late April ball is so frustrating here in MN.

I put my gear in the truck today so I wouldn’t forget it tomorrow night when I leave for league.

Just hoping for no whiffs.
You got this...probably. Maybe? I'll keep my fingers crossed.

With 3/4 nights of scheduled play "rained out" I'm hoping I actually get on the field tomorrow night for what are now our first Thursday games of the early season. And of course, I'm short 4 regulars. This is year two of me running my Monday AND Thursday teams, and I'm already starting to wonder if I am a glutton for punishment.

Made contact every time, got on base a couple times…like riding a bike apparently.

The OF…not as much but that’ll get there. Got caught on one of those in-between line drives

I ran teams for about 20 years. I won’t do it again, even though the last 5 or so were fun and people were pretty responsible, it was still a hassle.
