Madbeers Accident Pics

A few of you have asked for pics of my accident and recovery. Here are a few.

Broken Bones: 3 broken in each orbital, 5 breaks in the nose, and between the bridge of the nose and forehead... Doc said, "Pick a number. Imagine a shattered windshield or if you took a hardboiled egg and hit it with a spoon. Just countless chards." He estimated broken total: 25-40. He added 10 plates to my head. 35+ screws and hundreds of stitches.

The wound:

First stitching before they sent me to a different hospital with a trauma team:

After 5 hours of surgery:

Night of the surgery:

Day after surgery:

The scar where they peeled my face back:

Dang, hope you recover quickly.

May want to put a gruesome warning up, for those with weak a weak stomach :D

Crazy crazy bro. I've read the other post too. How is your face feeling? Head? Be careful with the drugs you get. I'm sure you're getting some strong stuff. When you don't need it don't use them.

He was tossing bp in a cage, threw a pitch and while releasing he hit his leg slightly. Making the pitch fall short, so he assumed the guy wasn't going to swing. Bent down to grab another ball, dude swung and nailed him right before he could react and get behind the screen.

Thanks, just went and saw the other thread started by bpeirce.....needless to say just sent some funds through PP. Again prayers for a speedy and healthy recovery!

He's one tough SOB right there. Recovery looks to be going good. Looking forward to hearing you make it back on the field.

That is how I got hit in the head (No where near this). That is one reason I don't pitch BP. Hitters don't know enough not to swing at bad pitches.

That's one of the issues. I don't mind bp pitching and know some guys will hit middle to practice but ive been hit in the shoulder cause guy said was going to pull the ball hard and I stood just couple inches outside the screen"deer in the headlights". Accidents happen BUT hitters need to be able to have vision beyond the pitch too. No one is to blame just use as a learning lesson for EVERYONE.

And to think 15 years ago use to pitch with no screen YIKES

I can't imagine how the hitter must have felt when you went down with what looks like a gunshot to the head, he probably thought he killed you.

I just need to convince the wife.

One of the strongest if not the strongest guys I know. See you on the diamond soon friend!

Don't confuse strong with lucky.

Accurate. The pitch was falling 1.5 short and off the plate a couple feet. Didn't foresee him swinging. Good hitter too. He got all of it.

So extremely thoughtful. Thank you.

hopefully the "possessed by Vigo" look goes away quick!

Not familiar with this one.

Not sure how tough I am. This has made me realize I'm fairly human.

Please don't. That would hurt greatly.

You should change your name to Wolverine! :D Glad to hear your recovering well brotha!

Just need the muscles and metal to go with it.

Everyone was fairly shocked that I didn't lose consciousness or go down. I eventually worked my way to my knees when the blood started gushing. Good thing his DC41 wasn't broken in yet. If it were, gadzooks.

Glad to see your recovery is going well board bro. Really unfortunate accident here. Not sure if mentioned or asked yet in the other thread, but what COR/Comp was that ball?

Thunder ZN. It was either a Classic M or a Stadium. Not sure. It was my bag of hard balls. He was heading to Winter Nationals the following weekend and breaking in a DC.

Almost starting to look like a normal human being, though no metal detector is going to agree.

I don't trust anyone, I get behind the screen after every pitch.

The difference is a screen.
I know if there is no screen I am not hitting anywhere close to middle but if there is a screen I am more relaxed and going with the pitch.
If you have a screen use it.
Had a guy tell me to treat batters like a loaded gun, you never know when one is going to go off on you.
Always protect yourself.
