Which finger should glove thumb fold to?

Ive got a new Vinci RV60S. Its a 13 inch H web with 6oz kip. I play 2nd base and utility.

Im trying to decide where to fold the sucker. What do you glove connoisseurs recommend as far as which finger the thumb should fold to...pinky, middle etc... Ive heard it matters what position you play or what just feels comfortable. Does it change if you put 2 in the pinky and shift finger down? Im thinking of tryng 2 in pinky.

I prefer two in the pinky for softball..it allows a little deeper pocket..it moves the angle of the hand slightly to eliminate some of the sting..i alos like the way it changes the closure of the glove..it closes to the pinky now..which to me keeps the ball from popping out on liners.. my 2 cents

Great point... I have 2 of the exact same model glove, one broken in conventional and one 2 in the pinky (index finger out on both), and the one broken in/used 2 in the pinky closes approx. 1 1/2" farther over towards the pinky stall.
The one broken in conventional, closes thumb to ring finger (it's an IF glove for BB, so that works out fine).

Put two in the pink and see if u like how it feels. If not go back to what u know. I use two in the pink with my 12" glove and conventional with my 12.75" glove both with pointer out.

How weird... with guys who go 'both ways', most go conventional with their smaller IF gloves, and 2 in the pinky with their larger OF gloves. Sounds like you do it the complete opposite.

I do two in the pinky too, and fold thumb to pinky. Everyone I know who has tried it hasn't switched back.

Starting as a kid I closed a glove by moving my fingers together towards my thumb and the glove breaks at the hinge. I have never found a good reason to change and closing thumb to pinkie feels weird as it means closing my hand differently (whole different set of muscles used) and would force me to hinge the glove mid-heel (and I cringe when I see gloves folded in 1/2 that way). I have never had a problem with the ball popping out.

I'm polish what do u expect! But in all reality I've always used big gloves. I went to a 12" and went two in the pink for the first time this season. Now my 12.75" feels like a 14" and pretty much sits in the bag unless I have to pitch.

Two in the pink, glove breaks at the hinge, thumb touches between the ring and middle finger. Do what works best for you though

I am conventional, but my thumb still breaks to the pinky (or close to it, about 90% pinky 10% ring) ... and I play 99% of the time in CF/LC.

I go 2 in the pinky and break my gloves in as close to thumb to pinky as I can go, having the heel as the hinge. I shoe shine the heel to achieve this.

From what I have seen, people do not know how to break in a glove. A lot of times, players try to develop their "hinge spot", whether it is in the hinge or mid heel. But, they end up creasing their "hinge spot" all the way through the pocket as well, developing a narrow pocket and making the glove lay flat.

My TJ1952-L has approximately 300 games on it, 100 of which are at 1b, when laying it on it's side, the pinky and thumb still do not touch. A lot of it has to do with how you develop the "hinge spot" and the pocket.

Mine doesn't really have a "hinge spot", it actually has two. It hinges on either side of the heel so it forms a "U" instead of "V". That's what the shoe shine method does for you, and why it's recommended, IMO. I want that big pocket. I could be wrong though. Happens all the time.

A glove is supposed to be an extension of your hand(fingers) so it should close the way your hand naturally closes. Your hand NATURALLY closes thumb to ring finger so that is the way your glove SHOULD close. That doesn't mean it's right for everyone but that is how gloves are designed to close.

Infield- fold towards web or index finger
Outfield- fld towards AT LEAST the middle finger. Perhaps ring finger or pinky, depending.
At least that's how I always did it in baseball.
Softball players will tell you ten different stories on how it should fold.

Infield I go conventional with index finger out and glove closes pretty much thumb to middle finger.
Outfield I go two in the pinky and glove closes perfectly thumb to pinky

Once I started using two in the pinky for outfield And saw the pocket it created there was no turning back

I also use two in the pinky while pitching no matter what glove I'm using for that extra pocket space

I cringe every time i see that word!:eek::( It implies a creasing of the leather & to me, that is a big no-no! "Shape" your glove to your personal liking but please try to stay away from folding of any kind.
