I would go with a Limited series. It would fit the hand of a 12 year old better. # choices in that line. starting at 12.5 inches, RCV-L 12.5, RV1961 12.75 inches, BMB-L 13 inches. I wouldn't go with a trapeze just because kids move all over the place at that age. The RCV-L would probably be the most versatile.

Unless your 12 year old is big for his age, I would stick to the 12.5" gloves.

my friend has seen my cp kip gloves and he is amazed with the quality, and he wants a long lasting glove for his son, after trying pretty much everything out there. 12.5 sounds good. now what u think cp kip or limited kip?

Unless he has big hands for his age, Limited.

Also look at an RV1957. Its not kip but is a nice glove 12" H web in Classic leather. If you want the kip go with the limited. The RVC-L is a great glove. If I was able to play baseball I would use it for my OF glove!

Buying a $200 glove for a 12yo is a bit much IMHO unless he's playing in a serious AAU program. I'm going to assume that he wants something that he can grow with & into.

Gloves I would suggest are:

RV1957 (12") - Classic Series. Perfect for the average 12yo. $119

BV1903-L (12.5")
PJV0416-L (12.75")
AB1961-L (12.75")
AB1974-L (12.75") - Limited Series. Excellent OF gloves. $199

These are the models that I'd recommend first if he wants a bigger glove. To be honest though, I'd be much more comfortable suggesting something in a 12" glove for a 12yo.

I am looking in to getting the jc3300-l for my son. It is a tad on the large size for him now. He will grow in to it quite nicely. Within the next year or so.plus he wants it in Dodgers blue. Lht of course. :D

Depending upon the size of the kid, another choice would be the RV5357-L. It is the 12" blonde H-web Limited. The blonde gloves seem to have a smaller hand size and the leather is a little softer and easier to break in, which makes them perfect for kids around this age.

What do you guys think of the JC03, do you think it runs true to size? or is it too small for outfield? he is not a big kid

If he is not a big kid, I'm not sure I would recommend one of the CP Kips like the JC03 - he will be forever breaking that one in and then the hand size is probably going to be too big for him. But I will say I have not had one of those so I'm not 100% on the hand size.

My personal opinion, I don't think an 11.5" glove is too small for a 12 year old outfielder, especially if he is a smaller kid.

<steps up on soapbox> I think many kids use a glove that is WAY too big for them and their defense suffers because of it. You have to be able to handle the glove, it needs to be an extension of the player and if it's too big, that can't happen. If they have too big of a glove, they are slow with it (heavy) and they have trouble closing the glove, particularly on balls near the end, because they don't have the hand size and/or hand strength to adequately close a big glove, espcially in that big play situation (diving for a ball, one that is just at the edge of your reach, etc). Success is about confidence - confidence breeds success. If you get to balls and don't catch them because you can't handle the glove, confidence goes down, now they miss more balls. If you catch everything that touches your glove, then confidence goes up and you catch even more balls. That extra 1/2" or 3/4" doesn't make you get to that many more balls and for a kid, it can cause more problems because of the possibility of balls that are dropped, leading to a lack of confidence. </soapbox>

Also, for what it's worth, I love the net-T webs. They make a great glove for a combo infield/outfield player.

Perhaps this would work well.

I echo what GM9 has said. Too many kids are "leather heroes". They rely on the glove and not their ability. They do not develop the needed skills with a larger glove.

I would NOT recommend a CP Kip. They are beasts and definitely over kill, both in the sense of break in and just a lot of glove.

I would recommend an 11.5-12" Classic Series glove. Breaks in easy, light weight and easy on thepocket book.

the JC3300 is a very nice glove and when broken in for an OF, it has a pretty decent pocket. Every Vinci has a deep pocket, it's just how tall you want to go.

I agree 100% with that. That is why up till recently my son, who just turned 8. Has been using a small 9" t-ball glove. I just bought him the 10" Vinci kids glove. I truely believe it will make him a better player in the long run. I also see a lot of kids running around with huge gloves.
